Things to Get Used to Again

The house is defeaning in its silence. I'm blaring music while Lisa is at work, and when she is home she walks around wearing her iPod and headphones or sits out on the porch talking on the phone. It's not that we don't get along, it's just the way she is and always has been. It's a huge change from baby cries and people stopping by with drums and guitars and smiles and the voice of my lover's snores and farts as I drift off to sleep.

The kitten is now big enough to be called a Cat, and does not seem to recognize PonyBoy. He is playing shy and keeping his distance, and PB is kindly giving him space, but it makes me sad as I was so looking forward to their rambunctious tumbles.

Unpacking sucks, school starts tomorrow and I will henceforth have to pretend to be all Serious about studying (which I am, so that's fine).

I am cooking for one again, and the organic market is wildly (instead of mildly) overpriced. I am also without a dumpster to dive into; they are all locked.

I no longer get paycheques, at least for the moment. (Should I really try to find a job for just 4 months? Yes, I should. I need to get on that.)

A woman on the bus today asked me, without any other introduction, whether I had my tongue pierced. I am dressed fairly averagely (ha! if 'supercute' is average!) and was reading a magazine. The question, as do most questions from these Crazy Conservative Hick Folks who ride the bus in Fresno, seemed to be completly out of left field. And she asked as she was disembarking (de-bussing, as WestJet would call it) so I was unable to follow up.

It is 36 degrees Celcius today, and the high was 2 degrees hotter. The grapefruits are out on my neighbours' tree, although they are green as limes still.

I miss C-Light. It's been, like, a day and a half and I would be inviting him over for dinner tomorrow night if we were in the same city, because I miss his sweet little smile.

And a million other people as well.

I've decided to move back to Edmonton in January instead of moving to San Fran. We'll see how well my head wraps itself around that one!

As soon as I get back into town, I'm instating Supper at Susan's every Wednesday night. You are all invited, every week if you like, and I will cook for whomever shows up.

Much love and fond thoughts.
